Flower Festival update

This morning I received the following email from the tourist board about the changes to the Flower Festival. Celebrations are going ahead, but from this it seems the Parade isn’t.

The 2020 edition of the Flower Festival, which this year, due to being held exceptionally in September, is part of the Wine Festival, will have a new costume. It will include more than 50 performances from 9 groups and allow the usual procession to be replaced by events in three different spaces in the city of Funchal, during the month, on the first and third weekend.

 

Detailed information on the event is being finalized, since it was necessary to review the usual schedule in conjunction with regional health entities in order to comply with the health standards currently in force, without jeopardizing the health and safety of places and of our visitors.

However, we can already advance the set of initiatives that will integrate this year’s edition, which is expected to be a turning point in the face of the crisis in which Covid-19 has plunged us:

 

Market of Flowers and Regional Flavors
– September 3 to 27

– Location: Central Plate of Av. Arriaga

 

Concerts at the Central Plate of Av. Arriaga
– September 3 to 27

 

Madeira Wine Lounge
– September 3 to 27
– Location: People’s Square

– Wine tasting with the presence of regional producers with tasting of regional snacks in a space with a lounge environment and live concerts.

 

Wall of Hope
– September 5
– Location: Praça do Município

– Children will be able to place a flower at the “Muro da Esperança”, this year, without the usual ceremony and procession with the schools, but accompanied individually by their family members.

 

Activities of Flower Groups
– 4, 5, 6 and 19, 20 September (on two weekends)

– Location: In various areas of Funchal.

– There will be about 50 performances performed by the various groups.

 

Flower Exhibition
– September 3 to 27
– Location: Praça da Restauração

– The Flower Exhibition will be maintained, with a change of location to Praça da Restauração, next to the Central Plate.

 

Floral Rugs
– September 3 to 27
– Location: In various areas of Funchal.

– The floral rugs will remain.

 

Madeira Flower Collection
– September 12 and 13

– Location: Pier 8

– To be held with 18 fashion designers.

 

Flower Concerts
– September 24th to 27th
– Concerts and entertainment in emblematic spaces inside and outside Funchal.
