As of July 1, the Air Access Standardization Plan for travelers to Madeira Island and Porto Santo airports comes into effect.

Find out what this essential document says for those traveling to the Autonomous Region of Madeira and which can also be consulted on the Visit Madeira page:

1 – Filling out and submitting an epidemiological survey – All passengers must complete the survey by the Regional Health Authority (IASAÚDE). Pre-travel must be completed between 48 hours and 12 hours prior to departure. The survey is available on the official website of IASAÚDE and will be accessible through the websites of the airlines that so consent. Alternatively, the completion of the survey, on paper, may occur on arrival at airports in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

2 – Thermal screening – All passengers disembarked at airports in the Autonomous Region of Madeira are subject to thermal screening, even if they carry a negative test for the covid-19 disease, carried out in the 72 hours prior to disembarkation, in laboratories certified by national authorities or international standards.

3 – Test for the covid-19 – Each traveler who disembarks at the airports of RAM, is obliged to fulfill as an alternative, and under the supervision and guidance of the competent health authorities, what is established in one of the following paragraphs:

a) Present proof of having performed a PCR test of screening the SARS-CoV-2 with a negative result, provided that it was carried out within a maximum period of 72 hours prior to departure;
b) Carry out, with the collection of biological samples on arrival, a PCR test for screening the SARS-CoV-2, to be promoted by the health authority, and must remain in isolation, in the respective home or in the hotel establishment where he is staying, until the obtaining a negative result from said test;
c) Carry out voluntary isolation, for a period of 14 days, at your home or at the hotel where you are staying, and if the accommodation is less than 14 days, the confinement will have the duration of the accommodation period;
d) Return to the destination of origin or any other destination outside the territory of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, fulfilling, until the time of the flight, isolation at home or in the hotel establishment where he is staying.

The PCR tests for SARS-CoV-2 considered for the purposes of points a) and b) are certified by national authorities and recommended by international health authorities, the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO);
Financial charges with the Hotel where the traveler is staying, in the cases provided for in paragraphs b) and c) of paragraph 3, are the responsibility of the same.

Criteria for submission to the SARS CoV2 test in childhood and pre-adolescence:

-Children from 12 years old, under the prior opinion of the Health Authorities;

– Children with criteria for suspected COVID disease 19;

– Children whose family members or companions are suspected cases;

– Other situations validated by the Health Authorities

4. Monitoring

All passengers will be monitored through an APP (mobile application) – “Madeira Safe to Discover” from the Regional Health Authority, which is voluntary but recommended, or by telephone contact.

5. Positive test result for COVID-19 disease

Mandatory confinement, if necessary compulsively, for a period of 14 days, in a health establishment, in the respective home or in a hotel establishment, by decision of the competent health authorities:

a) Patients with COVID-19 and those infected with SARS-CoV-2;

b) Citizens for whom the health authority or other health professionals have determined active surveillance.

6. Repatriation

The Government of the Autonomous Region of Madeira collaborates with all the Diplomatic Authorities and operators involved.

Charges related to repatriation operations must be covered by the travel insurance policy of the passengers concerned.

It should also be noted that traffic between the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo is exempt from any control of the health status of the respective travelers.

 

Mask use update from 1st August

The Regional Government approved Resolution 551/2020, which determines the mandatory use of a community mask to protect against COVID-19 disease in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), as of August 1, 2020.

The use of a mask becomes mandatory in different spaces or places of access, permanence or public or similar use, without prejudice to the special regulations in force. This measure aims to increase the degree of protection of the Madeiran population.

“The mandatory mask in all public spaces meets the culture of rigor that the Government had in addressing the pandemic and aims at maximum security for all and the preservation of life”, reinforces the regional secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Pedro Ramos.

Wearing a mask in public helps to control the spread of the virus in the community.

The obligation to use the mask includes some exceptions, namely:

  • Children up to 10 years;
  • Disabled people (due to difficulty in putting on / removing the mask without assistance)
  • Sports practice;
  • Beaches, bathing areas and complexes and access to the sea;
  • Physical activity and / or leisure that involves physical effort;
  • Recreational sports activities in forest spaces and recommended walking routes.

  BEACH OR POOL

  • When I go to the pool or the beach, do I have to wear a mask?

The mask should be used when traveling in the bathing area to enter and exit the enclosure and to access the changing rooms, toilets, bar / restaurant or other common areas.

The exception to the use of the mask applies when you are on the beach sunbathing and when going to the sea and / or pool.

  • Do I have to wear a mask on the beach and in the pool when I go to the water?

No. During the bath and on the way between your towel and the water, it is not mandatory to wear a mask.

TRANSPORT

  • Do I have to wear a mask on public transport?

Yes. The mask must be used on all public transport.

  • When I use an uncharacterized taxi or transport vehicle, do I have to wear a mask?

Yes. Both the driver and the user must wear a mask to protect everyone.

  •   When I use my car, do I have to wear a mask?

No. It is not necessary to use a mask in private vehicles when you are alone or with people from the same household.

SPACES OF SPORT AND LEISURE

  • When I go to the gym, do I have to wear a mask?

Yes. The mask must be used at the entrance and exit of the gym and whenever I go around the facilities to access the training areas, changing rooms / changing rooms, toilets and reception.

  • When I walk or run on the public road, do I have to wear a mask?

No, as long as it guarantees physical distance when I come across other people.

  • Do I have to wear a mask in the restaurant or cafe?

Yes. The mask must be worn during circulation in the restaurant and / or cafe space, whether it is a closed or open establishment.
